You can measure how tight a fastener is by using the TS-1000 with an in-line transducer or you can use a JETCO electronic torque wrench.
1. Tighten the fastener with a conventional torque wrench or power tool. Next, apply torque to the fastener with an electronic torque wrench or with the TS-1000 and an in-line transducer. Put the meter or wrench in peak hold mode and apply additional torque until the fastener just starts to turn (stop as soon as the fastener overcomes friction and turns). Read the meter or wrench and you will have a close approximation of how tight the fastener is. Do not "loosen" the fastener with this type of test. You must tighten the fastener to properly include thread friction as a component of the applied torque. |
